How do I set up FedEx One Rate in InfoPlus?
Estimated read time: 8 min
What Is FedEx One Rate?
One Rate is not a separate shipping service. You won't find it in the carrier dropdown in InfoPlus. It works on top of the FedEx Express services you already use — when you pair an eligible service with a FedEx predefined package type, FedEx applies One Rate pricing automatically.
Prerequisites
Before setting up One Rate in InfoPlus:
-
-
Your FedEx account must support One Rate. Contact your FedEx account representative to confirm One Rate is enabled on your account.
-
One Rate must be enabled for API/web service calls. This is separate from account-level enablement and is the most common reason One Rate doesn't work after setup. Even if your FedEx account includes One Rate, FedEx may not return One Rate pricing through API calls by default. Ask your FedEx rep to enable One Rate pricing for web service requests.
-
Have FedEx-branded packaging from FedEx on hand. One Rate requires specific FedEx envelopes, paks, boxes, or tubes. You can order these from fedex.com or pick them up at a FedEx location.
-
You do not need a separate carrier account or parcel account in InfoPlus for One Rate. It works with your existing FedEx setup.
Eligible Services
One Rate pricing applies to these FedEx Express services:
-
- Next-day: FedEx First Overnight, FedEx Priority Overnight, FedEx Standard Overnight
- 2-day: FedEx 2Day A.M., FedEx 2Day
- 3-day: FedEx Express Saver
NOTE: FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery do not support One Rate. Using a FedEx predefined package type on a Ground order will cause the shipment to fail.
Packaging Types
FedEx-branded packaging is required. The FedEx One Rate packaging types below are available as predefined package types in InfoPlus:
| InfoPlus Package Types | Dimensions |
FedEx Envelope |
9-1/2" x 12-1/2" |
FedEx Pak |
12" x 15-1/2" |
FedEx Small Box |
10-7/8" x 1-1/2" x 12-3/8" or 8-3/4" x 2-5/8" x 11-1/4" |
FedEx Medium Box |
11-1/2" x 2-3/8" x 13-1/4" or 8-3/4" x 4-3/8" x 11-1/4" |
FedEx Large Box |
12-3/8" x 3" x 17-1/2" or 8-3/4" x 7-3/4" x 11-1/4" |
FedEx Extra Large Box |
11-7/8" x 10-3/4" x 11" or 15-3/4" x 14-1/8" x 6" |
FedEx Tube |
6" x 6" x 38" |
Weight limits:
- Envelopes: 10 lbs or less
- Paks, Boxes, & Tubes: 50 lbs or less
Overstuffing:
FedEx will reclassify an overstuffed Envelope (bulging more than 3" on the shortest side) or Pak (more than 5" on the shortest side) as a box, and charge the box rate based on the package's cubic volume.
Setup in InfoPlus
Step 1: Verify predefined package types exist on your site
InfoPlus comes with FedEx predefined package types already loaded. To verify:
- Go to the Predefined Carton table
- Confirm you see entries like FedEx Envelope, FedEx Pak, FedEx Small Box, etc.
- If these are missing, submit a support ticket and we'll ensure they are added to your site.
NOTE: Your site may have other FedEx predefined package types that are not included in the One Rate program. Using them will not trigger One Rate pricing. To add a new package type to your site, submit a support ticket.
Step 2: Create carton types for the FedEx packages you'll use
A Carton Type record in InfoPlus is required for each FedEx package type you plan to ship with. For general carton type setup, see Create Carton Types.
- Go to Warehouse > Carton Types
- Click Create New
- Fill in the carton type details:
- Name: Use a name packers will recognize easily like "FedEx One Rate Pak" or "FedEx One Rate Small Box"
- Predefined Package Type: Select the matching FedEx predefined package from the dropdown
- Fill in the dimensions and max weight to match the FedEx packaging specs (see the table above)
- Repeat for each FedEx package type you'll use
Step 3: Use the carton type on your orders
When packing an order that should ship with One Rate:
- Assign one of your FedEx One Rate carton types to the order, either through pack station or via cartonization
- Make sure the order uses an eligible FedEx Express service (2Day, Express Saver, Priority Overnight, etc.)
- Manifest the order as usual
FedEx will return One Rate pricing for the shipment automatically!
How to Verify One Rate Is Working
There's no indicator on the FedEx shipping label that distinguishes a One Rate shipment from a standard shipment. To confirm One Rate pricing is being applied:
- Ship a test order using a FedEx One Rate carton type and an eligible Express service
- Check the shipping cost on the order to the published flat rate for that package type, service level, and zone (see FedEx One Rate pricing table)
- If the cost matches , One Rate is working
If the cost looks like a standard weight-based rate instead of a flat rate, the most likely cause is that your FedEx account doesn't have One Rate enabled for API calls. Contact your FedEx rep.
Troubleshooting
| What you see |
Likely cause and next step |
|
You see a standard weight-based rate instead of a flat rate |
Most likely: One Rate is not enabled for API/web service calls on your FedEx account. Contact your FedEx rep — having One Rate enabled on the account is separate from having it enabled for API/web service calls |
Shipment fails when manifesting |
Check that the service is FedEx Express (not Ground or Home Delivery). One Rate carton types on Ground orders will fail. |
Rate looks like a standard rate even on Express |
Confirm the Carton Type is tied to a FedEx predefined package type (not a generic carton). Without the predefined package type link, FedEx treats it as a custom box. |
Rate is higher than expected on Envelope or Pak |
FedEx may have reclassified the package as a box due to overstuffing. Check that the contents fit within the bulge limits (3" for envelopes, 5" for paks). |
Important Notes
-
FedEx Ground is not compatible with One Rate packaging.
If you use a FedEx predefined package type (like FedEx Pak) on an order shipping via FedEx Ground, the shipment will fail. Predefined package types trigger One Rate pricing, and Ground isn't eligible for One Rate. Only use these carton types on FedEx Express orders.
-
Rate shopping does not work with One Rate.
InfoPlus rate shopping doesn't support predefined packages. If you use rate shopping to pick the best carrier/service, it won't factor in One Rate pricing. You'll need to assign the FedEx Express service and One Rate carton type directly on orders that should use One Rate.
-
Voiding One Rate labels.
If you need to void a FedEx One Rate shipment, you may need to contact FedEx directly. Standard label void requests through InfoPlus may not process for One Rate shipments.
