About Putting Inventory on Hold

Not sure which hold option fits your situation? Here’s how to choose.

Is This What I'm Looking For?

InfoPlus gives you three ways to put inventory on hold so it won’t allocate to orders. A future Distribution Date holds a specific lot or receipt. A Holding location holds everything placed in one area. Frozen status holds inventory and stays with it when you move it. Here’s how to know which one fits your situation.

More Details

Future Distribution Date

Inventory from an Item Receipt counts as Unavailable until the receipt’s Distribution Date. To hold a lot, set that date 5 to 10 years in the future. The hold stays with the inventory, even if you move it. When you’re ready to release it, change the date to today. Leave the Freeze Action field on the ASN line item blank, because only InfoPlus support can release a frozen receipt.

To set the date before you receive, see How to Create/Manage (ASN) Advanced Shipping Notifications.  To change it after you receive, see Update Open or Received Item Receipts.

Holding Location

Holding is a behavior type you set on a location. Inventory in a Holding location counts as Unavailable and won’t allocate. The hold belongs to the location, not the inventory, so inventory you move to a pickable location can allocate again. To set one up, see Create / Edit One Location a Time. For how Holding compares to other behavior types, see Identify Location Behavior Type Rules for Allocation, Replenishment, and Pick Faces.

Frozen Status

Inventory in a location has one of three statuses: Available, Damaged, or Frozen. Frozen inventory counts as Unavailable, and it stays Frozen when you move it. You set it in the Change Inventory Status app in the Mobile Floor Apps, and it only changes the location you choose. To freeze part of what’s in a location, move that inventory to its own location first. If you don’t, you won’t be able to move any other inventory into that location. See Change Inventory Status.

Next Steps

  • If you need to keep track of lots on hold, create a Smart Filter on the Item Receipts table that filters by Distribution Date. See Create and Manage Smart Filters.
